In 2013 Richard accepted a position as Editor-In-Chief with Dark House Press, where he was responsible for editing six novels and two anthologies. Exigencies was nominated for a Shirley Jackson Award. Since then, he’s been doing editing work as both a freelance editor and with Medallion Books (Burnt Tongues, with Chuck Palahniuk and Dennis Widmyer, which was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award, and winner of the Best Anthology of the Year at This is Horror, USA Book News, and INDIEFAB), Black Lawrence Press (The Lineup: 20 Provocative Women Writers), and Gamut magazine.
He edits short stories, novels, and everything in-between. There are three levels of edits to choose from.
Manucript evaluation
A manuscript evaluation—of a story OR novel—is basically a read and response, no editing, with evaluation of overall quality.
Cost: $3/page. Double-spaced only.
OVERVIEW/DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT
A developmental edit gives the author an overview and edit on what’s working (mostly big picture) and what isn’t, and includes some markets where the story could be sent.
Cost: $6/page. Double-spaced only.
FULL EDIT
A full edit includes developmental editing and a line-by-line copy edit. Copy editing looks for grammar, typos, tense, etc, and also includes a list of potential markets for submission.
Cost: $9/page. Double-spaced only.
Consultations
Richard provides consultation and coaching on an hourly basis and includes everything from career evaluation to market suggestions.
Cost: $60/hour, $50/hour for past students.
He is accepting new clients.
For more information, email Richard at storyvillerichard@gmail.com to discuss a plan that makes sense to you. Please be aware, it’s important to work with an editor that’s a good fit. Because of this, and other factors, Richard does not take on all clients or projects. If you are (or were) a part of LitReactor, The Cult, The Velvet, or know him from Facebook and/or Twitter, please include that in your email.
